What is TED?

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

Our Mission: Spread ideas

TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. On TED.com, we’re building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world’s most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at TED and TEDx events around the world, all year long.

In fact, everything we do — from our TED Talk videos to the projects sparked by the TED Prize, from the global TEDx community to the TED-Ed lesson series — is driven by this goal: How can we best spread great ideas?

TED is owned by a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation. Our agenda is to make great ideas accessible and spark conversation.

What is TEDx?

The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. At TEDx events, a screening of TED Talks videos — or a combination of live presenters and TED Talks videos — sparks deep conversation and connections at the local level. TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by TED. Learn about TEDx event types.

Anyone is welcome attend TEDxMarkhamSt.

Why will TEDxMarkhamSt have an application process to attend in 2016?

The TEDxMarkhamSt audience is just as important as the speakers on the stage. An application process the organizing team curate a diverse cross section of the Little Rock population who are passionate about ideas worth spreading. We look for enthusiastic applicants who are committed to attending the event, and those who are eager to share knowledge beyond the conference itself. Delegates are selected based on a process that considers only the information provided on the application form. It is important to note, the organizing team is not tasked with evaluating individuals, but rather their applications. Every application reviewed will be scored independently by at least two TEDxMarkhamSt committee members.

How will I know if my delegate application has been accepted for TEDxMarkhamSt 2016?

After the application review process is complete, successful applicants will be contacted via e-mail. Upon accepting their invitation, delegates will be able to purchase a ticket for the event. Making the event accessible has always been a key priority for TEDxMarkhamSt organizers. As such, tickets may be made available to successful applicants who require assistance.

Why is there a fee to attend TEDxMarkhamSt?

TEDxMarkhamSt is run by a non-profit organization, Enspire Advantage. Our event is run solely by a team of dedicated volunteers, and money collected from ticket fees is allocated back to the conference to support costs for venue, operations, food, after party & satellite events. Charging a fee means that TEDxMarkhamSt can become a more self-sufficient organization, ensuring that TEDxMarkhamSt programming and events can be sustained into the future and that we can continue to reach new and broader audiences. Please note, in 2016, that we will not turn away successful applicants who cannot pay the full fee; tickets will be made available to successful applicants who require financial assistance. If you require financial assistance and would like to attend, please visit the contact page to discuss options.
